Rounding!

Hello!

As you have probably heard, we have been working on rounding in Math this week. The students are struggling with this strategy. We have learned a song to help them but they need as much practice as possible. Please help your child practice rounding whenever possible. We have some great games in our Dealing with Math pack. Those packs are being added to all the time. They are an easy way to practice our new skills. I hope everyone had a great break!

Math fun!

Hello parents! Hopefully your child has been showing you all the fun things that we have been putting into our journals everyday. As a reminder, it is good for children to review their journals daily. They should also be finishing any outputs they did not get done at school nightly.

In Math we are currently working on multiplication. I'm sure it does not look like it did when you were a kid! We teach several strategies to help students understand and learn multiplication. One of strategy is using an array. There is a fun activity (the M&M Activity) that can be done at home and I have linked it to this post. Just remember that rows go right to left, columns go up and down, and (when you write a multiplication sentence) the row goes first. For example 2x3 should be read as 2 rows of 3 objects. I hope you enjoy this activity with your child!

Welcome to 3rd Grade!

I am so excited to be in 3rd Grade with you this year! We are going to have a great year. In our class, we will be working to become excellent writers, readers, mathematicians, scientists, and explorers. We will be going on some really fun field trips this year to Columbia, Walnut Grove, and Roper Mountain Science Center. I'm looking forward to having a wonderful time.
